DIY Knockoff Pillows!

Is it safe to assume that everyone loves Target? Although I almost never buy anything (**almost**) I love to peruse the aisles. My poor hubby is such a sport! He just buys a latte and will walk around with me until his latte runs out.

On our latest excursion I saw this pillow:

I always feel like I'm doing something illegal when I snap photos of items in stores, so I turn my phone on vibrate (so no one will hear the fake camera sound), snap the picture then flee the scene.

Anyways, I loved the pillow but not the price tag. I took a picture of it because I knew I could make this at home. During all this thinking, my friend Brittany from Brit's Apron posted photos of her new pillows on facebook:

How precious are these! I was inspired immediately and ran to Joann's to buy my fabric.

I made sure to buy the end of the bolt on all three fabrics so I would get a 50% discount. I spent less than $10 on fabric for all three pillows.

I then used tutorials from Jones Design Company and Crazy Wonderful (my friend Brittany also used these) to make the ruffle and rosette pillow.

The rosette pillow is my favorite!

Originally I was going to make all my rosettes cream to match my bedding - but I ran out of that fabric. So I dug into my stash and found this great orange and pink floral print. I kinda like it better than my original idea!

The ruffle pillow was going to have ruffles all across, but again I ran out of fabric.

Lastly, for the Target knock-off I just made up my own plan.

Now my master bedroom is almost complete. I just need to replace those ugly lamps!

Of course I'll probably completely change the look when I buy a new home, but this will remain for the next few years!

Oh! I almost forgot! I used a very good tutorial by my friend Ashley from Domestic Imperfection to sew envelope closures on all three pillows!

I love my new pillows! I'm thinking some pillow cases would make a fun giveaway for when I reach 750 followers! What do you think?

Five Feature Friday #12

Wow! I've already been doing FFF for almost three months! Isn't it crazy how fast time goes!

I've had a little bit of crud these past few days and I've been doing a lot of napping. Hence the late post!

You guys have just been blowing me away with all the awesome projects you've done!

I am absolutely in love with this desk makeover from Life We Live 4! I'm not big into football, but these colors just go great together! Such a funky desk!

How awesome is this DIY pallet bench from Make Them Wonder? The total cost was less than $10 - the plants look gorgous paired with the old wood!

town and prarie did a fantastic job on 'Grace.' She looks gorgeous in her new teal and glazed look!

a wee Meenit found this dresser at a yard sale for $10!! She did a wonderful job fixing it up into a media cabinet! What a gorgeous piece!

My Old Country House really hit the mark with this amazing dresser makeover! The deep gray and white compliment each other perfectly! Hop over to see how well it looks in her upstairs!

Grain Sack Stool

About a month ago I was browsing the aisles of Target and I came across the French Country line, I was totally inspired by the rustic grain sack stool that was $50 and I knew that I could easily knock off the idea on the cheap. So, while I was out buying for the store I came across the perfect little wooden stool for this project and it was only $5. {my kind of deal} My sweet friend Mrs. H {a post about her} gifted me a grain sack hand towel from the Target collection and I knew right away what I could use it for. . . the fabric to cover my stool! It couldn't of turned out any better!

Apples and Cinnamon

One of our favorite afternoon snacks around here are apples with cinnamon sugar. Yum! They are healthy and fun to eat. It is almost like eating apple pie filling! All you have to do is cut up an apple and sprinkle some sugar and cinnamon on top and snack on!

Turn your bathroom into a luxury spa (or Turkish hammam)

Summer is over, nights are drawing in, the central heating comes back on. Time to cosy up our homes and get into some serious pampering. No better place to pamper yourself than in your own bathroom. Bubbles in the bath, candles on, glass of wine..you get it. I don't know about yours, but our bathroom is small and always runs the risk of looking messy with too many shampoo bottles and other stuff lying around. No bathroom is going to going to look like a luxurious spa with lots of clutter in sight, so look out for some pretty baskets to store towels, bath products or use for your laundry.

I really like the idea to step away from the standard mdf bathroom cabinets and replace them with a vintage glass cupboard, painted in a nice colour.

Have you ever been to a Turkish bath house or 'hammam'? Some of them are grand and very decorative, others - especially traditional ones - are pretty basic (after all, they were bath houses for people who didn't have a bathroom at home!). What makes some of them very pretty is the dome-like architecture, arabic decoration, mosaics and natural stone. Usually they also have a big heated stone platform in the centre where you can get your back scrubbed by some old lady ;-) And don't expect a gentle massage here!

Anyway, back to the comfort of our own bathroom, let's see how we can add some hammam-style to your own sanctuary. Tip one: swap your high street brand shampoo bottles and soap bars for something prettier (or at least hide the family size plastic bottles in the bathroom cabinet!). Lots of people are now into making their own soaps, so why not buy a few bars from an independent soap maker? Plenty on etsy, or try and make your own.

I love the beauty and feel of cotton hammam towels which give your bathroom instant stylishness. (I recently imported some to sell in my online shop, which I would love to keep all to myself but that would make me a rather silly shop keeper!). Drape them over an old ladder or roll them up in a pretty basket.

Something I also like and gives a real 'spa-like' feel, are pebble floors. They now apparently come in easy sheets that you can simply buy from your DIY store....keep that in mind for your next bathroom project!

Finding a New Purpose For Your Old Nursery Furniture

So I was playing around on Pinterest recently and I found some really cool ideas for how to reuse cribs and changing tables.

If you havent heard, just recently most cribs have been re-called because of new safety laws for cribs. You are not even supposed to re-sale your old ones because of the safety hazards.

So there are millions of cribs that no-longer can be used.
