OK, so generally I don't like to shop or promote huge businesses.  I really prefer to support smaller businesses.  I have always felt this way and even more so now that my hubby and I have our own business.  However, this review is an exception to my rule.

I have been on a mission to remove all bad things from our home, from food to toiletries and more without adding to our monthly spending budget.  That is no easy feat!  So we started little by little, first with food, then moving around the house to cleaning supplies, laundry and dishwasher detergents, hand soaps, and toiletries.  My make-up is the last thing I want to change because it only affects me, not the family.  My old mascara was shot and I thought it would be the perfect time to try something new and healthy!

I did some research to find that there are many organic mascara's out there, but the price point is pretty high, with some tubes costing over $30!  OK, so not too outrageous, but still.  Then I found Physicians Formula Organic Wear Mascara, ringing in at just under $10.  I figured it was too good to be true, but thought it was worth a try.  I am thrilled I did!

I really love it.  Physicians Formula promises that this mascara is 100% Free of Harsh Chemicals, Synthetic Preservatives, Parabens, Clumping, Smudging, Flaking, Fibers & Dyes.  That is a big promise!  Oh, and a little more...100% Recyclable Eco-Brush defines each lash with ultra-soft plastic bristles. I love that it is healthy and that it works well for me.

Check out the pictures below that I took before, during and after using this mascara.

A short while back I ran a giveaway from UPrinting.com.  The nice folks over at UPrinting.com were so gracious that they offered me a customize letterhead for myself.  Well, if that wasn’t fantastic already, I entered and won a giveaway from another wonderful blogger.

(For the life of me, I can not remember the name of the blog.  I feel horrible.  If I won from your blog please leave me a comment so that I can give proper credit.  Remember…. my poor memory is the reason I blog/journal.)

UPrinting-letterhead

With a little Photoshop magic…. okay an entire Saturday morning, I designed my two custom stationary letterheads.    Then it was as easy as 1,2,3 to upload to the UPrinting site and have it printed!

UPrinting is so flexible with their designs.  You have several options to create your own letterheads, use there online templates or create your own in another format (Photoshop is just one option).

I’m sorry I sound like a infomercial.  I am just surprised that not many of you entered the giveaway.   This is is a great giveaway!  If you are hosting a giveaway from UPrinting.com, please leave a link in the  comment box.

I hope that I inspired you to enter in a giveaway to create your own or even a gift stationary.

After breakfast this morning, I looked up and realized it was time to clean the light hanging over the stove that sits in our kitchen island.  However, I wasn’t too impressed with my usual all-purpose cleaner.   It just could not cut through the sticky grease haze that covered the glass shades.

Cleaning grease off kitchen glass light shades

That’s when I thought about the big bottle of Goo Gone that I still had left over from cleaning the stair rails.

Goo Gone used to remove grease in the kitchen

It worked wonderfully for cleaning away the sticky grease.  Don’t you just love a powerful cleaning product?  Just thought I would pass along.

I picked up these thingamabobs at the thrift store a few months back for my son’s bookshelf.  At first, I spray painted them white.  They are made of plaster and the paint I used made them look chalky.  What I wanted them to look like was high gloss lacquer.  So I set them aside until I figured out my next move.

While on vacation in NY, I spotted this silver glazed fish in one of the quant little shops on the St. Lawrence.  It was shiny, it was silver, and it had depth.  Perfect.  I didn’t take a photo of the fish, and in fact, it didn’t hit me like a ton of bricks when I saw it.  I actually got thinking about it several days later on our way back home.  A 12 hour car ride gives you plenty of time to think about the most random things.

Silver Painted Bookends

What are these things?

Sometimes I think they look like shells.

Silver with black glaze paint treatment

Other times they look like an ear.

Whatever they are my son doesn’t seem to mind them because if he had I would have seen them thrown back into my craft room.

Here’s a photo (below) what they looked like before.

Here’s another thrift store find.  A gold tacky wall sconce.

This photo doesn’t even show how gold and tacky it was in person!

I spayed the entire sconce white and then glazed with brown and gray.

Glazed Sconce

When you go thrifting, do you ever stop and wonder what others must be thinking to themselves as you walk away with that strange thingamabob?  I know I do.  When I see someone pick up something that I would never be caught dead bring home I drive myself crazy thinking they have this great vision for something awesome and I didn’t see it!

  • How will they use it?
  • Will they paint it some unexpected POP of color?
  • Will they tear it apart and make something even better?
  • God forbid, will they leave it like it is? {okay, that was a joke}

CLOSED

I have another fabulous giveaway to share with you.

Heal My Sole

Recently I had the pleasure of try two of the natural Heal My Sole products.

Bug Spray   Citrus Foot Scrub

                                                  Bug Spray                                  Citrus Foot Scrub

Bug Spray~  I couldn’t wait to try this all natural Bug Spray!  I personally must have that type of skin that attracts skin-pierce-sucking-insects because I get a lot of bug bites throughout the summer. With my passion for gardening and watching my boys ride their dirt bikes, the bugs seem to find me and my sensitive skin.  Well, I tried the bug spray the first day I got it and let me tell you…. IT WORKS.    The boys went riding  their dirt bikes one evening and I decided to go and watch them.  Let me tell you this track was a breeding grounds for bugs but with Heal My Sole Bug Spray, I didn’t have any bites.  The bugs still landed on me but no annoying bites to deal with!  What a blessing to find a bug spray that works and doesn’t have the same ingredients used to peel off paint!

Foot Scrub~  I have personally tried a lot different foot scrubs.  This foot scrub was a bit different from most that I have tried.   Now you know that I have had a few wild back-t0-back weeks and so to trying to find time to pamper myself was a bit of a challenge but I needed to!  I simply sat on the side of the tub and followed the simple steps to relieve my cracked, sore achy feet.  Now this scrub was different because  it didn’t have  those big Epsom Salt deposits that most have for scrubbing.  No this one it so smooth and silky, I told Mary that if I closed my eyes {and had someone else rubbing my feet} I would have thought I was in a SPA.  Seriously, it felt like I was walking on a beach.  Not that coarse Jersey sand either, you know, the silk sands of the south tropic!   For a moment I was in heaven, and I woke up with soft smooth feet again.   I choose the Citrus but the foot scrub also comes in peppermint.

Mary of Heal My Sole is offering one reader

$25.

to spend as you wish!!!

There are so many wonderful all natural products to choose from.

Mary can even help you create a wonderful gift basket.
