This was my second try on my Silhouette machine this week.  I simply used some black vinyl to create a topiary and then I placed it on some wrapping paper I got in the dollar section at Target.  Then I framed in a frame that I already.

It now has a home above my PB Knock Off Organizer that I picked up at Goodwill.  I think it helps fill in the blank space above it now.

How to make...

Photo Kodin Kuvalehti

You need buckets (1x10ltr and 1xsmaller), minus temperatures, water and some patience..

1. Fill the large bucket about 3/4 full of water.

2. Place rocks or some heavy items inside the small container to weigh it down, about halfway down inside the large bucket. The top of the smaller container should be about even with the top of the large bucket.

3. Freeze the bucket of water by placing it outside when it gets minus temperatures. Set it aside until frozen solid.

4. Run warm water over the outside of the large bucket.

5. Run some warm water inside the small container to loosen it, easier to remove it. This then leaves the spot where to set the candle.

6. Make several lanterns and place them along your driveway or sidewalk.

I was in a Valentine-y mood this weekend, so I decided to create a great BIG Valentine sign for my family.  What does one use to create a great BIG Valentine sign?   Well, in my case I decided to repurpose a pallet.

The pallet used to be art in the boys' bedroom with a cardboard deer head hanging on it.  But when I updated the antlers I received from my mom, they ended up in the boys' room.

In yesterday's kitchen update reveal, you may have noticed the E-A-T letters above our cabinets.  (Or you may not have - they are kind of small in the photo.)  Today, I wanted to share with you how I created our "EAT" sign.  You've probably seen similar letters all over blogland.  They couldn't be easier to create, and they make a perfect focal point for any empty wall space in your kitchen.

Last week I showed you this pile of wood.  And asked you what you "wood" do with it...

I also promised to show you what I did with it.

So here's what I did...

I used the wood to create this beautiful piece of art for the Loft Bedroom.  And when I say I created the art, what I really mean is that it was a collaborative effort between my Papa, the Hubby and me.  I came up with the initial

Once in a while, I come across a picture that I absolutely need to save on my Pinterest feed or bookmark because it's fresh, unique et so easy to replicate. These original paint jobs are part of my bookmarked ideas. Loving to old looking bed that got an instant lift with a royal blue line [a], the attic door that becomes instant hallway art [b] or the irregular line paint job [c] - blue tape is so yesterday here! Another few examples that think outside the box, and I like that!

Last Thursday, I had the opportunity to appear on Studio 5  where I talked about actually making some of those projects I've been pinning on Pinterest .

My completed Pinterest-inspired project

As you can tell from this photo, I have had these black saddle-style bar stools for quite a while.

More after the jump...

You may remember that I added vinyl numbers to them when we lived

Today I'm sharing another treasure I received from my parents - a set of vintage deer antlers!

I was so excited to get these from them, but I wasn't jazzed with the way they were mounted. The highly varnished wood plaque and the red velvet just wasn't cutting it for me. So I decided to give the whole thing a bit of a facelift.

I started by sanding and painting over the plaque with a coat

Thanks so much to Bonbon Break for sharing our table.  I happened to hop on Craiglist the other day, and I had not been on there is a while. Usually there is not much for sale of interest where we live. But, on Friday I saw some preschool tables and chairs being sold at a church near by.

I couldn't pass up the table for twenty bucks and some chairs to go with it.  The table and chairs are both over 50 years old according to the director of the school.

Here is what they looked like as soon as we unloaded them from our truck.  Rob then sanded the entire table using a hand sander, wiped it with mineral spirits and then applied some gel stain. He painted the legs of the table and then used antiquing glaze over top of it to give it an aged look. This table is fifty years old, so it is pretty aged all by itself. Finally the top got a coat of polyurethane

We are very happy with the purchase it was a total of $50 for all the chairs and the table, but I think it was worth it. We left the chairs alone for now, but may consider doing a similar treatment to them in the future.

Thanks for stopping by!

This tutorial was originally posted on The Shabby Nest on December 3, 2009.  It's an old-y, but a goody!  Enjoy!!

When I saw this page in the Pottery Barn catalog, my heart skipped a beat. Yes, the bedding is lovely, and the windows are pretty, but it was those wreaths that I fell in love with. Amazing!! So, of course, I decided I had to make me one of those "bookish" wreaths.

When Belgian photographer Sven Everaert sent me these pics of his own DIY christmas tree, I immediately knew I had to share these with you. Styled by his wife, Evelien Vanherck - who's a journalist/stylist for European magazines such as Vårt Nya Hem or Casa da Abitare - this Xmas tree idea is another great example that you don't need to splurge to get a "va-va'voum" effect. I love the color, the unexpected "upside down" effect, and the simplicity of the idea. Merci Sven and Evelien and joyeux Noël!

I've been trying to compile some easy and inexpensive gift ideas this year. I know someone that enjoys tea, so I thought I would create some Chai Tea Mix for them.  I have shared the recipe I used below. I picked up a cute little container that they can reuse after using the mix for three dollars at Marshalls.  Then I added a tag with instructions and a ribbon to give it a little holiday spirit.

Here is the chai tea recipe that I used to create the mix:

1 cup nonfat dry milk powder
1 cup powdered non dairy creamer
1 cup French vanilla flavored powdered non dairy creamer
2.5 cups of white sugar
1.5 cups of unsweetened instant tea
2 tsp ground ginger
2 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp ground cloves
1 tsp ground cardamom

Blend ingredients together in a food processor or blender to combine, and then serve by adding two tablespoons of the dry mix to a mug of hot water or milk.

Not bad for a four dollar gift! Thanks so much for stopping by.

Megan

This weekend I hosted a girls night in. It was a blast and we enjoyed spending time together. I wanted to create a little something for their place cards. I got some plastic ornaments from Michaels, white sprinkles, white tags, stickers and some red burlap ribbon to make these place cards.  I'm also sharing this project over at Sophie at Home. It's a great blog. You should check it out.

Everyone had a blast and it gave me an excuse to use my wedding china which hardly gets used. Imagine that! This project cost around 13 dollars to make, and everyone had a little gift to take home.  Thank you for stopping by today.

I have seen so many beautiful variations of DIY tree skirts on Pinterest.  I had about twenty minutes to burn during nap time the other day, and I decided to tackle my own version.

I had purchased a drop cloth several months ago at Lowe's hoping to come up with a project later one. I simply cut it in the shape of a square. I know most are round, but I am awful at cutting circles.  I then used some fabric in a similar color to crate a ruffled edge using a glue gun.  Then I simply added some self adhesive stars around the top of the ruffle.  All together this project cost around ten dollars.  Pretty inexpensive and easy to make.  I just used some velcro to attach it together in the back of the tree.

Now the bottom of my tree does not look so bare.  I also wanted to something that did not get covered in the hair from my yellow lab that seems to go everywhere even when vacuuming all the time.  This is the perfect match for his color so I will not even notice. See ~
