Welcome to Modern yet Old-Fashioned, my little blog world!   I have been busy this week co-hosting Creating Christmas with the Girl Creative.   We are on day 6 out of 7, ending tomorrow with a fun linky party!

Today, I had a couple of crafts on my to-do list.  The first one didn't work out as well as I had envisioned and I was totally bummed about it.  So, I started on another one...paper cone Christmas trees.  That was yet another flop!  At this point I consulted my "favorites: to-make" list and went to town.  I chose to make a felt poinsettia flower broach for my purse.  It would also be a great addition to the wrapping of a Christmas gift.
I had seen a a tutorial on Centsational Girl, which I used as a guideline.  I think it looks adorable!

It turned out a little bit larger than I had intended, but I actually prefer it that way.  I mean, why put your sweat and tears into something small that nobody but you will notice?  OK, well probably not sweat or tears!!  But I still like it just the same.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Now that Thanksgiving is over, it is time to prepare for Christmas.  I have to tell you that I LOVE the Christmas season!  Everything about it makes me happy.  I love the Christmas songs, the decorations, the food, the shopping and hustle and bustle, the Christmas spirit around us, gift giving, and especially the real meaning...the Birth of Christ!

I would like to share with you, the Advent Calendar I made.  It is a fun project!

Can you tell what it's made out of?

Yes!  A mini muffin pan!

We had a scrapbooking weekend at my Mom's house a while back.  Everybody made one of these.  It was neat to see how they all turned out!  Even though the base craft and idea are the same, everybody's looked very unique.  One was all in blue and white, one in pinks, another was not color coordinated at all.  They all were beautiful!

Having an advent calendar has become a tradition in our home.  Instead of candy, Santa's helper leaves little fun notes, coins, or fun things for the kids to do.  They love it!  Two years ago, one of the days had a note that told them they would sleep under the Christmas tree that night.  Simple, but they haven't forgotten and they thought it was great!  Last year they went on a scavenger hunt around the house to find a little gift.

If you would like to make one of these adorable Advent Calendars, all you need is a 24 cup mini muffin pan, a sheet of magnet, paper and embellishments.
I cut magnet first, then glued on the paper and embellishments. Each square is 2 1/4 inches.

You can get as creative as you'd like.  That is the fun part!

He is ready with a full
backpack!
Today was a busy day.  Well, aren't they all!?!?
My Little Dude went to work with Daddy today so that I could accompany my Princess Cupcake on her class field trip to the local pumpkin farm.  It is the most beautiful Fall day today and I was thrilled to be able to go with them!
I over heard someone at the farm telling her friend about the kettle corn that they had there.  That is all it took for me to have a hankering for the stuff for the rest of the day, well, at least until I got home and made some!  It really doesn't take much because I love kettle corn!

Homemade Kettle Corn in super easy and absolutely fantastic.  You should give it a try!

Can you see that sweet and salty goodness?

Homemade Kettle Corn

2/3 cup Organic, Non-GMO Popcorn Kernels
1/3 cup Organic and/or Non-GMO Oil, such as coconut or olive
1/4 cup Organic Sugar
1 tsp Sea Salt

Add oil to large heavy bottomed pot with lid.  Add a kernel of popcorn, when it pops, the oil is hot and ready to pop the corn quickly.  Add the popcorn, sugar and salt.  Give it a quick stir and put on lid loosely.  With potholders, continue to shake the pan gently over heat to prevent burning.  You will know when it's done, because the popping sounds almost stops.  Pour into a bowl and let cool a minute.  Break up any clumps with a spoon or utensil.  Voila!  Kettle Corn from your own kitchen!

Handmade paper cups for the kids' snack.

I am hoping to do a post about the {finished} wedding favors, all 235 of them, that I am making for my sister's wedding, later this week.  It will be a great job done and a relief to finish them a little early.  Then on to finishing the bride-maid's flip-flops!
Have a great week!
