And the outdoor furniture building continues…..

DIY-Pottery-Barn-Console-Table

I decided I need an outdoor console table when the other night I was out cooking on the grill and I simply didn’t have enough room to sit down all my ingredients.   Don’t you just hate not having enough workspace?

Well wouldn’t you know it, looking though the Pottery Barn catalog, they have a couple of outdoor console tables (with their shocking price tags) that would work perfectly on our deck.

Chesapeake Console Table    Faraday Console Table

I like the simplicity of the Chesapeake table but I just love the look of the smaller vertical slats of the Faraday table.  Playing around with Google sketch-up I was able to combine the best of the each and make the perfect table for myself.

I am still using up the wood from my parents old deck, but I did have to buy a couple boards to make this table.  While at Home Depot, I priced out the wood for the entire project and it would cost less than $25 to make!!  That is a savings of $275!

I debated whether to add a fancy leg or even casters wheels, but I am completely happy with the way it turned out.

The Hubby came home when I was in the middle of staining the table and I had to ask him what he thought….. He asked, “You made me a new workbench?”   Ummm,  Yeah.  Sure if you consider the grill as a part of you workspace!  (that’s him trying to be funny because a few years ago I made myself a gardening bench and some how he ended up taking it and using it as a workbench in the garage!)

The stain is from Sherwin William’s Deckscape.

EDIT:   The stain from SW is called Woodscapes.

I love my little fishy.  I have had him a few years now.  The little silver star plate is new.

Don’t you agree the small vertical slats give the piece much more interest?

The wooden cake plate was hand-crafted by my Dad.  (you must check out the cute new cupcake stands he just added to his Etsy store.  Adorable!!)

This table is going to be perfect when the Hubs is cooking out on the grill or even when creating an outdoor buffet!  And when not in use…. it looks great with a few outdoor accessories.

Hello there!

My little sanctuary is kind-of-sort-of coming together.  I say that because right now my backyard looks nothing like this at all.  In fact, all the backyard “goodies” are piled up in a heap as the new roof is going on.  I did have the whereabouts within me to take some photos the night before construction started, hence, the very dark photos.

DIY-Chaise-Lounge-Chairs

I stained the chairs and the stand with SW’s solid deck stain in “Lodge Brown”.

*The “SPA” blue umbrella is leaning because I just plunked it down in the stand while it awaits the base to finished (DIY concrete in a flower pot with a PVC pipe in the center).

Lowes-Chaise-Lounge-Pattern

For some reason I was thinking that I had this plan in my inspiration file for along time.  For me to complete a project in one year’s time is not bad at all!!!  Giving myself a “You go girl” pat on the back!

I’m not sure if the plans can be order from Lowe’s or even downloaded off their website, but I did stumble on to The Design Confidential blog that has a printable plan for the PB Chaise Lounge,  the PB Umbrella Stand and Side Table, plus pretty much the entire collection of PB Chesapeake outdoor furniture!!

Might I add, if you are planning on making a chaise lounge for yourself, please, don’t skip on the wheels.  They are heavy and it will require two people.   I was able to move the lounge chairs out of the garage and to the backyard by myself with easy even with a sore neck.

DIY-PB-Chaise-Lounge-Chairs

These lounge chairs are so comfy!  I love that I was able to snag the cushions from PB outlet at such a great price.   I am not crazy about the stone color.  What??? between the kids and the dogs, I don’t see them staying clean for very long.

Inspiration-colors

Let me tell you about the coming of this color palette.

  • It first started with a few purchases from Pottery Barn Outlet. Lounge Chair Cushion in stone and a Navy Blue Umbrella.
  • I was thinking nautical or even patriotic at this point.
  • Last Friday, I pick up a Double Chaise Lounge Cushion in a Jade Green and Stone stripe. (oh you haven’t see that yet?  Follow me on Facebook for all my sneak peaks.)
  • Then over the past weekend I picked up another great umbrella from Pier 1 in the prettiest “SPA” blue.
  • Now I am panicking a wondering how I am going to pull all these colors together?!?!?
  • And luck would be on my side when I spot this pillow (pictured above) at Home Depot.  It has all the colors….. Navy blue, Spa blue, and Jade green!     Most designers would have started with this pillow as their color inspiration but I’m different.  I like to make it hard on myself for one and let the end-of-the-season-sales be my inspiration!  lol

Outdoor-cushions-&-pillows

Oh, so I also snagged some new chair cushions and a few extra pillows for the dinette set.  The bamboo placemats I have had for years but have never used (price tags still attached).  With the recently overhead construction going on, I will have to wait to do a more spectacular tablescape.  This outdoor set is in need of some TLC.   I do have some plans for this table, just not sure if I will get to it this season.

As soon as I sat my Pottery Barn knock-off chaise lounges in the back yard I just knew that I had to have the Umbrella Stand Table too!!  Pottery Barn has this lil’ table listed in the catalog for $299.  Ouch!  A little rich for my blood.  Even the PB outlet price was $199. for this 20” table.

Me, I have ZERO deniro  invested for money and only 1 days worth of labor.  Yep, I am still working through the pile of pressure treated wood that once was my parents old deck.  I’m sure I have another project or two left before it’s gone.

Remember I showed you that I had been designing my own table using Google Sketch-Up

It came to life rather well, but I will admit that if I had to redo this Umbrella Stand Table over I would have used an even number of slats for the top.  And the reason why…….  when cutting out the 2” hole for the umbrella, the center would fall between two slats instead of one like mine did.  I did have to reinforce the bottom prior to making the hole.

Inspiration-colors

I love end of the season sales!  It allows me to actually shop at places that I usually just go to window shop (like Pottery Barn and Pier 1).    However, you are faced with the added challenge finding all the items you need, as well as, mixing and matching colors.

I showed you the navy blue PB umbrella that I pick up for a steal a few weekends back, but blue didn’t go with anything that I already had.    I need an inspiration fabric to pull all the colors together……

Can you believe that I found this perfect outdoor pillow at Home Depot? (on sale of course!)

Stay with me for my next couple of post when I show you how the new color palette as it comes together!

A quick note of yesterday and today’s agenda~

I am finally getting my new roof from the horrible storm back in May and it couldn’t have come at a better time as I spotted some water leaks in the attic!  I was in a total panic at the thought that my newly painted second floor and foyer would be ruined Sad smile

Building-a-Pottery-Barn-UmbrellaStand-and-Side-Table

I must say one thing before I close out this post.

Without the Kreg Jig, that my Dad bought when I was making the Chaise Lounges, this cute little stand would have screw or nail heads showing all over it.   The Kreg Jig places all the screw holes from inside, leaving you with a nice clean look on the outside.  Thanks Dad.

Do you know that I don’t make life easy on myself?

Nope.  I am still dealing with the insurance company from the storm that we had back in May and decided to schedule the adjustor and  the contractor to come by the on Monday after I got home!  Why?  Why do I do this to myself?  (I haven’t come up with a good answer for that yet)  But good news…. the adjustor approved a total roof replacement!

On top of that, I had to drive to Charlotte to return the rented golf cart on Monday.  Yeah, the one that my son and his friends took every single minute and I never got to ride in.  Remind me to tell you about the time that I walked out of the RV and down to the middle of all the action in the heat of the day when it was 115 on the heat index and how I thought I was going to pass out walking back up the hill and just had to stop in the public rest rooms to wash off the dripping sweat, bring my face color back to a recognizable skin tone, and then just had to cool off with a vanilla milkshake just to make it the rest of the way back to the RV.

Anyways, this week has been going by way to fast.  See I have way too many things that need to be done from being away for week and half-- balancing the checkbook, paying bills, laundry, phone calls, and so many more boring things that I don’t want to list.  Next week we will be starting school and I was hoping to have a LOT more completed projects this summer.  Uhhggg

Shelstring-Bracelet

On a brighter note…. In the mile high stack of mail that I need to sort through, I had a package from Michelle Alger of Shelstring and enclosed was this gorgeous beaded bracelet!  I haven’t taken it off…. in fear that my teenage daughter will want to barrow it and I’ll never see it again!  (Mom, aren’t you glad that I was never one of those typical teenagers?  LOL.  Right now my Dad is rolling his eyes, because he knows the real truth.  I just returned his cordless air nail that I barrowed over a year ago to do the “Gift Wrap Closet”.)

Thank you Michelle.  You’re a doll.

Pottery-Barn-Umbrella

If you follow me on Facebook then you know that THE DAY I got back it was my daughter’s 17th birthday.  We spent the day doing what all teenage girls like to do…. SHOPPING!  I was more than willing to spend the day doing exactly that after being stuck with 3 boys for 10 days in an RV!  I was over joyed (to put it mildly) to find a Pottery Barn Outlet so close to home!  I literally told the Hubs that he was going to have to get the truck and drive it closer because I found some great deals and they were coming home with me!!

I found this umbrella on clearance with an additional 25% off plus it just happened to be a TAX FREE weekend!  Anyone who knows me knows that I am not a fan of blue and I actually had picked out a stone color umbrella. After talking it over with the Hubs, this blue umbrella was much bigger for only a few dollars more.  So the blue came home with us.  I can totally rock a patriotic theme for my back porch!

DIY-Chaise-Lounge

While I was away, the Hubs bought and stained one of the chaise lounges.  That was really sweet of him to go through the trouble.

I hope this doesn’t sound super snotty of me, but the color is a little lighter than what I had envisioned plus my OCD sees several spots that he missed.  I know…. that sounds really awful of me.  I can’t help it though.  I spent way too much time making these chairs to not see to it that they look 110% all the way to the end!

Yes, I only have myself to blame when the Hubby isn’t thrilled at helping out with my many DIY projects.

As any good southern would say….

“Bless his heart!”

Stain-for-Chaise-lounge-chairs

Here is the color that I was trying for before the stain decided to get thick and goopy on me.

PB-Chaise-Lounge-Cushions

And my lucky day at Pottery Barn didn’t stop at the umbrella….  I found these chaise lounge chairs…. and again, on clearance with an additional 25% off plus NO TAX!!!

Oh how I am dreaming about my next trip to the Pottery Barn Outlet!!!  sigh

Spotted this little Umbrella Stand/Side Table in the Pottery Barn catalog.  Isn’t it wonderful?

Umbrella Stand Side table

I spent a little time on Google Sketch-up working out the design and pattern for the Umbrella Stand Side Table.  I am hoping to start it this weekend.  I’m not sure if I’ll be able to complete it though; I have to work the pre-season game for the Carolina Panthers.

Won’t this be perfect sitting between the chaise lounge chairs???
