Guest Project -- Make Mod Podge Pumpkins AND a surprise!!

Hi Tatertots and Jello FABULOUS readers!!!

I am Desirée Campbell from The 36th AVENUE...

I can't even put into words HOW EXCITED I am to be here today

sharing with you the first Halloween Project that I've done this year...

For this project you'll need:

Old foam or plastic pumpkins, leftover fabric,

Mod Podge, brushes and regular Acrylic Craft Paint...

1st:

Remove the pumpkin stems..

2nd:

Cut a bunch of strips of fabric.

{the length will depend on the size of your pumpkins}

I cut the ends of mine in an arrow shape, it was a LOT easier to work with them this way...

3rd: Let the mess begin...

Apply an even coat of Mod Podge to the section of the pumpkin you are working on.

Start gluing the strips one by one on the surface of the pumpkin overlapping them until

you cover the entire area... After apply one more coat on top of your "fabric pumpkin" If you have never worked with Mod Podge before

DON'T PANIC... it will dry CLEAR.

...I decided to paint the stems in a butter cream color.

Don't worry about doing this perfectly, it looks better to let the old finish come through. I wasn't joking when I said messy...

While some of the pumpkins were drying I decided to paint the reminder of them the same

color as the stems...

and I added some dark stain mixed with glaze to antique them a little bit...

4th:

After wiping off the excess stain with a damp cloth, it was

Time to HOT glue the stems back!

I think... we are done! Are you ready to see them?

"Summer Social" Guest Project -- Make an Embellished Grocery Bag Container!! {great item to keep in your car}

Jen is my bloggy bestie. We run The CSI Project together, Crafterminds, and we are doing a web show together in the fall. Yet I have never guest posted on her blog. I wanted to have the perfect project before I posted here. Well that day of perfection will never come.

However, I did come to share with you a fun little gift to give yourself or a friend for the summer…an embellished grocery bag container.

These are perfect to throw in a beach bag for wet suits. They are also wonderful to have in your car for summer road trips. Whatever you reuse plastic bags for having a container full of them looks a heck of a lot better than stuffed in a drawer. Plus they are so much more portable this way.

I figured out how to fold them so that they are interconnected and one bag comes out at a time but pulls the next one out a little.

Supplies:

12 plastic grocery bags (I used Target ones)

coordinating fabric

Empty wipe container

Fabric Mod Podge

Foam brush

Spray adhesive

scissors or rotary cutter

quilting ruler

1. Grab a dozen bags and flatten them out pushing all the air out.

2. Fold them in half again pressing all the air out.

3. Overlap the handles onto the top of the previous bag. Do this for all 11 bags lining them all up into one big row.

4. Fold the first bag’s handle upward. This will be your middle and the first bag you pull out of the container. All the other bags will be connected to this first one.

5. Now tightly roll up your bags tucking in the new handles as you roll.

6. After you roll up 12 bags you are ready to insert them into your wipes container.

7. Tuck the first bag’s handles through the top. Now you are done.

Done? What do you mean done?

I can’t be at TT& J without embellishing right!? RIGHT!

8. Cut out a piece of fabric roughly 8” x 10”. With your foam brush “paint” Fabric Mod Podge onto the fabric. The Mod Podge seals the edges and gives the fabric a durable water resistant surface.

9. After it is dry cut it to size. For one of the Lysol wipes containers I cut mine 7 1/8” x 10 3/8”. Then glue it in place. I use a spray adhesive because it is quick and easy. Overlap the pieces one over another. Adorable and practical!

"Summer Social" Guest Project -- Make a Mod Podge Silhouette Canvas!!

I’m Char from Crap I’ve Made, where I blog about….the crap I make.

I love fountain Diet Cokes and cookies. I also love Jen and I’m kind of mad that my step mom (who is her neighbor) didn’t introduce us like 7 or 8 years ago.

who are all home for the summer and driving me a *little* bit nuts. So, I wanted to come up with a project we could work on together.

We came up with this silhouette canvas.

Supplies:

Canvas

Old magazines &; scissors

Mod Podge

Acrylic craft paint
Stain (optional)

Sandpaper

1. First, you’re going to let your kids go nuts cutting up magazine pages.

(The kid on the table in pajamas in the middle of the day in the background is totally optional.)

We tried to pick pages with a lot of color (as opposed to black and white text), but that was really the only direction I gave them.

2. Once you have a whole bunch of cut up magazines, you’ll want to Mod Podge them to a canvas. There’s also no rhyme or reason to this, just make sure you cover the entire canvas.

No need to have a panic attack that everything’s not smooth…some lumpy/puckered/not perfect parts are encouraged!

3. Once it’s good and dry, trace your silhouette with a pencil on the canvas.

I went with this bird on a branch design from the Silhouette library. I think a big initial or monogram would look fabulous as well. Or how about a chevron pattern on the whole thing? (That was for you, Jen Winking smile

)

4. Once you’ve traced, you’ll want to fill in the rest of the canvas with craft paint. There are no pictures of this step because my daughter/back up photographer and I were both doing the painting.

YOU CAN ABSOLUTELY STOP NOW. I like this look and I probably would have stopped now if our silhouette had been something more graphic.

I decided to take some sandpaper to the painted area so that some of our magazines would peek through.

Again, YOU CAN ABSOLUTELY STOP NOW! There’s really no wrong way to do this…just go with what you like!

5. I applied some stain next.

I put it on streaky and wiped some off.

YOU CAN ABSOLUTELY STOP NOW.

6. I, however, did not. I watered down a few more shades of acrylic paint and did some more streaking (not that kind…what kind of blogger do you think I am?) and a little splattering.

YOU CAN ABSOLUTELY STOP NOW…because I totally did.
