Thinking about what I want to make next...I have been perusing Pinterest, blogs--being inspired by so many talented folks. Remember, Pinterest does not produce or create these things--people do--hard working, creative folks who put their hearts into what they do.  It is important and ethical to try to find the original source of an idea and give credit where credit is due.  Recently a blogging friend let me know that some of my pallet projects were on Style Estate without any link to my blog. After letting them know that it was not ok to use my photos without some credit, they quickly and courteously resolved it and linked to the blog.  I appreciate that.  I understand that sometimes it is hard to find the original source, but it is worth the effort.  I also find it odd and wrong to link up other people's projects in linky parties, even when credit is given.  I have found my projects linked where I have already linked the project myself.  What are you thoughts on this?

Here are a few things that caught my eye and inspired me:
I want to make this table runner from Shanty 2 Chic.
DIY Table Runner
I am thinking about recreating something like this from A Spotted Pony in my entry, for people tack, not horse.
I love using this little part of the pallet--from Recycleart
10 Pallet candle jar decoration in wood pallets 2 accessories with pallet decoration candle jar
Seaside Interiors pet bed reminds me that I need to bust some pet beds out before the shows I have coming up--they are always an easy sell.
Love this simple planter box from Hipcycle.
Planter made from reclaimed wood.
Time to go build something...stay tuned!

I've invited some friends over for an Easter egg hunt in a few weeks. I wanted to make some treat bags for the kids on a budget. I found a package of four bags for a dollar at the Dollar Tree. They are called felt bags, however, they are not really felt at all.   You can find them in the arts and crafts section there.  Then I took a cookie cutter I had and traced out some bunny heads on fabric. Then I used some adhesive to attach them to the bags.
So far I have the bag filled with the a little foam bunny or chick kit that I found at Joann Fabrics for a dollar each. I'm sure I'll be able to find some other goodies for the bag.

Thanks for stopping by!

It's about time!!

The loft bedroom is finally finished!

And since I don't want to keep you waiting any longer...

Here is the loft space BEFORE

And  here is the loft BEDROOM AFTER

Read all about it after the break...

You may recall that the idea for turning the loft space into a bedroom space occurred to me several months ago when Boy One was pining for a room of his own.  But

Now that Valentine's Day is over that means Spring is just around the corner. I'm really looking forward to warmer weather! Today I want to share with you our Spring Mantel that I put together for the store.

It has a mix of nature- inspired elements including branches and moss, neutral colors from the canvas books, concrete and terracotta pots with fresh greenery, a framed bird print, and a little red bird.

I adore this mantel because it has so many special details and the mirror really adds a lot of character to this revamped mantel.

To make this fun- shaped object, I simply folded the pages of a vintage paperback book.

I added buttons, twine and numbered tags to the canvas wrapped book bundles.

This aged terracotta pot was a freebie at a recent estate sale. Can't beat that!

I like to play around and mix different textures and materials with old and new pieces to create vignettes around the store. This Spring Mantel has all of those elements combined.

Dear Donna at Funky Junk Interiors is featuring old window projects at her weekend linky party so I thought it was a good opportunity to share some of my past window projects.
This first one was from an old window screen
I added some decorative paper behind these windows to make coat hooks (Wow, my picture taking has come a long way from the early blogging days.).

I decoupaged Dick and Jane book pages to this window:
I made a cabinet with an old window as the door.
I used an old window for my Christmas porch decor.
I adhered glass plates to this old window to make "stained glass".
I made some free art from an old window frame:
And of course my latest craze has been to make these from old windows:

I know I have done other things, but I am not finding those pictures right now.  Off to go build something new--it is an amazing day here!

I recently discovered buckwheat at the class at Shars where they talked about sprouting.
In the class she used sprouted buckwheat to make granola.

I also learned that Buckwheat isn't really wheat at all.  Really it dosen't even look like wheat.
It's more related to Rhubarb.

The health benefits are fabulous.
They are working on using it to treat Type II Diabetes,
lower plasma cholesterol, and fat loss.
It's also very high in protein, iron, zinc, and selenium.

Really who couldn't ask for more.

I have yet to try it in granoal, but I did buy some to try in waffles.
I think I'm in love!

We eat a lot of waffles at my house, alternating with the Heavenly Cream of Wheat,
and in moments of weakness, or tiredness... we have cold cereal.
Sigh...
But when I ask what the kids want, they usually want waffles.
While I do love my whole wheat oat waffles, this new version is very tasty
and seems to stay firmer than the regular version.

It's super easy to make and this recipe makes about 9 waffles.

Buckwheat Waffles

Grind 3/4 cups of buckwheat
3/4 cup hard white wheat, or a blend of grains like spelt, kamut, and wheat.
Put 2 cups water in the blender then add,
2 cups fresh ground flour
1 Tbsp Baking Powder
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp vanilla
2 eggs
1/2 cup applesauce
2 Tbsp honey or sweetener of your choice

Blend well.

Pour on waffle iron and let cook acording to manufacturers directions.

Serve hot.

This is my favorite way to eat one with a little peanut butter, applesauce, bananas, and strawberries.

For Valentines Day I made these for my kids.  I added 3 strawberries to the batter in the blender and some food coloring, then sprinkled chocolate chips on top before closing the waffle iron lid.
Either way, a super yummy power packed breakfast for you and yours!

How to make...

Photo Kodin Kuvalehti

You need buckets (1x10ltr and 1xsmaller), minus temperatures, water and some patience..

1. Fill the large bucket about 3/4 full of water.

2. Place rocks or some heavy items inside the small container to weigh it down, about halfway down inside the large bucket. The top of the smaller container should be about even with the top of the large bucket.

3. Freeze the bucket of water by placing it outside when it gets minus temperatures. Set it aside until frozen solid.

4. Run warm water over the outside of the large bucket.

5. Run some warm water inside the small container to loosen it, easier to remove it. This then leaves the spot where to set the candle.

6. Make several lanterns and place them along your driveway or sidewalk.

My parents just gave me their printers drawer. I remember this hanging in our kitchen growing up with all sorts of knick knacks in it. My grandmother has one also in her kitchen still. I took a straw form wreath and wrapped it in jute. Then I added some fabric rosettes and banner with buttons.

I am very excited to have the printers drawer to use for future project. It is going to stay just the way it is because Rob said there is no way it will ever get painted. :)

Nina's Apartment is now open every Saturday from 10am - 2pm, thanks to the help from the ladies of Willow Cottage, a fellow local business with a shared love for vintage and upcycled furniture. Lisa and Debra from Willow Cottage are big Annie Sloan chalk paint fans and are regularly bringing beautifully upcycled pieces of furniture in - from cute little chairs to full-size kitchen dressers. I am delighted to have their items in my shop, adding that bit of classic 'Country Living' flair to my more continental, eclectic, colourful 'Elle Decoration' style! Come and see for yourself, we'll be happy to help you find something you love.
